Accused of such unthinkable crimes, our heroes attempted to explain to the Town Council the events of the past month. So extraordinary, however, had these events been, that the Councilman failed to believe their truth. He demanded proof of these whild claims.
If it was proof that they wanted, Max and Zarp were ready to give it to them. They offered to take Councilman Lohner and any men he felt necessary to the site of their original entrance into the Banite Dungeon. This would be the only place of entry left to them with the destruction of the exit (along with the northern half of the dungeon) upon the slaying of Black Lightning.
Commanding the population of the town to stay behind for their own protection, the Councilman took only the contingent that had escorted our adventurers previously with him as Max and Zarp led the way back to the site of the old tree. Upon finding the now collapsed entrance, the gnome began the job of digging a new tunnel to the dungeon. A short time later, the path was clear, and the adventurers and townsmen alike descended into the depths once more.
Our heroes led the way through the hallways to the sacrificial room where they originally found Angelis and Jallarzi. Still chained to the walls were the previous victims of the Black Cult, their recognized sight sending a couple of the guards into less masochistic emotional states.
"Though some may argue this could have been your work, I do not think so. We've seen enough here to believe your story, the bodies of these cultists are proof enough for me," Lohner apologized. The Councilman continued by instructing the escorting party to free the bodies of their townsmen and woman, and taking them from this vile place.
Once the lost souls were freed from their would-be crypt, the remainder of the party left the dungeon for hopefully the last time. Zarp refilled the tunnel, and they all began the long trek home.
Upon returning to Starpoint, Lohner informed the people of what they had seen. Where the party had once been scorned and condemned, they were now praised as saviors. Free meals, supplies, and lodgings were offered so long as they remained in Starpoint.
More importantly, however, our adventurers were invited to be honored guests for the village's Harvestide celebration the next day. Less cheerful than usual for the mourning of the lost friends and family, the Harvestide feast was still a grand event. In fact, it was so good that a couple of our party memebers couldn't even tell you about it...
